Mercedes Radio: Serial Number Location

To locate your Mercedes radio serial number, you'll need to follow different methods depending on your vehicle's model and year. Here are the most common ways to find it:

  • Check the radio unit itself:

    • For older Mercedes radios, the serial number is often on a label on the side or top of the unit when removed
    • For many Mercedes models, you'll find a sticker with a barcode containing the serial number
  • Radio removal process:

    • Turn off your vehicle
    • Most Mercedes radios require special removal tools (usually two U-shaped tools)
    • Insert the tools into the slots until you hear a click, then pull the radio out
    • Once removed, check all surfaces for labels with serial numbers
  • Access through the COMAND or infotainment system (for newer models):

    • Press the "Menu" or "System" button
    • Navigate to "System Settings""System Information" or "About"
    • In some models, press and hold the "i" button for several seconds
  • Special button combinations:

    • Some models require pressing the "<" and ">" buttons together while turning on the radio
  • Mercedes documentation:

    • Check your vehicle documentation folder
    • Mercedes often provides a radio code card with the serial number
    • Also check your owner's manual for model-specific instructions
  • Mercedes-specific locations:

    • In some models, check the trunk area near the CD changer (if equipped)
    • For older models, look inside the glove box for a sticker

Mercedes Radio: Code Entry

Here's how to enter the unlock code for a Mercedes car radio:

  • Turn on the radio, which should display "CODE" or a key symbol requesting the security code.

  • For most Mercedes radio models:

    • Use the numbered preset buttons (typically 1-4 or 1-6) to enter your code
    • On older models, press each preset button the corresponding number of times to input each digit
    • On some models, press and hold the "TP" button before entering the code
  • For newer Mercedes COMAND or Audio systems:

    • The display will show a numeric input screen
    • Use the controller knob to select each digit, then press it to confirm
    • On touchscreen systems, simply tap the numbers directly
  • After entering the complete code:

    • Some systems automatically validate the code after all digits are entered
    • Others require you to press "OK" or the controller knob to confirm

If you enter an incorrect code, the system will display "CODE ERR" or similar. Mercedes radios typically allow three attempts before locking temporarily, showing "WAIT" followed by a waiting period (often up to an hour).
